Presenting the Timex TW2Y55900, a 40 mm stainless steel piece built around one of the most recognisable colour pairings in watchmaking: deep blue and bright steel. The round case is polished along the flanks and brushed over the lugs, crowned by a coin edged rotating bezel with a blue insert, a full 60 minute scale numbered every five minutes in white and a luminous triangle sitting at twelve. Under the mineral glass the blue dial shades darker toward the rim over a finely textured centre, with faceted applied indices, broad polished hands and two white counters at nine and three that lift the contrast straight out of the 1970s. The printed CHRONOGRAPH QUARTZ SINCE 1972 line sits above six o'clock, the Q logo above the Timex signature at twelve. The flat three link steel bracelet with polished edges completes it, and the fluted crown at three is flanked by two pump pushers.

Inside works a quartz movement, chosen for the accuracy and the low maintenance that made this style of watch a daily companion. The left counter reads its scale in 20 unit steps up to 60, the right one runs on a 24 hour track marked 6, 12, 18 and 24, while the slim central hand sweeps the outer minute track. The screwed steel case is water resistant to 10 ATM, measures 40 mm across and only 10 mm thick, so it slips under a cuff without a fight, and the bidirectional bezel lets you mark elapsed time at a glance.

Timex traces its roots to the American clockmaking tradition of Waterbury, Connecticut, and built its reputation on watches made to be worn hard rather than kept in a safe. This blue and steel chronograph look revives the compact quartz sports watches the brand sold by the million in the seventies, redrawn with modern finishing.
