Fossil Harlow ES5497: leather threaded through gold-tone steel

The Harlow ES5497 is a small watch with a lot of assembly work behind it. The case is stainless steel with a warm gold-tone finish, cut into an octagon of eight flat facets that catch the light one at a time as the wrist turns. Inside it sits a brown dial with a fine woven texture and only four applied Roman numerals, at XII, III, VI and IX, so the time reads clean.

The bracelet is where the build quality shows. A brown leather strap runs through open gold-tone links and is locked in place by ribbed bars, so leather and metal alternate all the way around the wrist. The grain of the leather stays visible while the metal carries the structure.
